Riverside Military Academic, Atlanta, Georgia

Welcome from the President

For more than 105 years, Riverside Military Academy (RMA) has produced young men of purpose, character, and a commitment to those ideals necessary for citizenship and leadership in a free republic.  At RMA, we offer a traditional, American-style education where personal values, honor, and love of country still matter. RMA is not owned or operated by any particular religious denomination, but supports the spiritual and educational goals of all families. In that regard, the Pledge of Allegiance, the blessing at mealtime, and cultural respect and appreciation for those of different race, gender, and religion are not only expected, but mandatory.

The military process at RMA is not an end in itself; it is simply the means to an end. The end being an educated young man who has experienced the challenges of the military model of education and who is completely prepared for the rigors of college – a cadet who is poised, polite, and confident in any social environment.Hence, RMA cadets stand tall, offer a firm handshake, respect authority, and display a level of confidence that parents may not have observed previously.

The military setting adds structure, responsibility, accountability and yes, consequences when necessary. All contribute to a well-rounded young man. This environment works  for those who have historically underachieved, who simply have not been able to manage their time, and who tend to procrastinate in every endeavor. The rigorous days at RMA are filled with academics, military activities, social activities, and athletics. Thus, there is little time for non-productive activities.

It might sound as if Riverside is all work and no play. But that could not be further from the truth. Besides scholastic athletics, there are intramurals, the Drill Team, chorus, drama, band, and other clubs and organizations. These activities are performed on or in some of the finest facilities in the country.

In closing, at RMA, we change what cadets think is good enough in terms of effort and achievement. Mom and Dad, you will see the difference.

For the Corps,
Dr. James H. Benson, Col, USMC (Ret)
President, Riverside Military Academy

Summer Programs at Riverside Military Academy

Riverside Military Academy's summer programs offer our cadets, as well as young men from other schools, the opportunity to learn, grow and excel. Whether you're looking to strengthen or enhance your academic skills with our Summer Opportunity and Academic Review (S.O.A.R.) program or want to attend a camp to improve your game, develop lifelong leadership skills, or just have fun, Riverside's summer programs offer a wide range of options. Summer is a great time to "test the waters" and experience life at Riverside!

Riverside's S.O.A.R. Cultural Immersion Program is beneficial to our international and foreign language cadets. English as a Second Language (ESL) cadets are provided with opportunities to visit other areas such as Virginia and Washington, D.C. where they enjoy sights and attractions including the Smithsonian Museums and Colonial Williamsburg. They practice English conversation skills while also reading and writing in English. The final week of the program focuses on Leadership Camp and preparation for the upcoming Fall semester.

Our Academy now offers a high-quality classroom and behind-the-wheel Driver Training Program that makes learning easy and safe for beginners. We're committed to teaching each student the most advanced defensive driving techniques, and our instructors are friendly professionals who are certified by the State of Georgia.

Summer classes take place on Riverside's 206 acre tree-lined campus, which is situated on the shores of Lake Lanier in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our outstanding dormitory, academic, and recreational facilities create an exceptional place to enjoy the summer while earning academic credit!

Boarding High School for Boys

Riverside Military Academy's high school serves grades 9-12 with a rigorous curriculum that is carefully structured to prepare each cadet for college. It is a well-rounded, comprehensive education which includes all college preparatory requirements in the language arts, math, social studies, sciences, and foreign languages. Students are required to take courses in military science, the fine arts, and physical education.

Cadets are also taught useful study, test-taking, and time management skills. With a 14:1 student-teacher ratio, each young man has the opportunity to receive extra assistance in the classroom as well as during study hall hours. Over 70% of our teaching faculty has master's level or higher degrees.

Riverside cadets learn leadership skills and accountability. They develop character and integrity by following the RMA Honor Code and participating in our Character Development program.

Each year, our graduates earn millions of dollars in college scholarships and are admitted to some of the nation's finest universities. We invite you to explore our academic program to see where Riverside can take you!

English as a Second Language (ESL)

The ESL Program at Riverside Military Academy provides our non-native English-speaking students with the English language skills they need to succeed academically in schools where English is the language of instruction.

Because our primary goal is college placement, our focus is on building the cognitive academic language proficiency of our students so that they each excel in their academic courses and ACT/SAT college entrance exams.

We offer three levels of ESL classes that serve beginning to advanced-level students. See our ESL Overview for complete descriptions.

Coursework is supplemented by field trips into the community to give students the opportunity to gain practical experience with their language skills.

Riverside also offers a S.O.A.R. Cultural Immersion Program in order to benefit our international and foreign language cadets. English as a Second Language (ESL) cadets will be provided with opportunities to visit other areas such as Virginia and Washington, D.C. where they will enjoy sights and attractions including the Smithsonian Museums, Arlington National Cemetery, and Colonial Williamsburg. They will practice their English conversation skills while also reading and writing in English. The Capstone week of the ESL summer program will include an assignment on the cadets' experiences during their cultural immersion trip. The final week of the program will focus on Leadership Camp and preparation for Fall semester.
