UC San Diego Ranked One of Top Universities in the World

The University of California San Diego has just been named one of the top universities in the world, according to the 2013 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

The ARWU – compiled by the Center of World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University – has been released annually for the last decade, ranking the top 500 universities across the globe.

This year, UC San Diego was ranked No. 14 among 500 universities worldwide – the only local university to make a major mark within the list.

Higher education faces daunting challenges: soaring costs, access and completion issues, rapidly changing technology, and accountability pressures from state and federal officials. But no challenge is more daunting than the fundamental question that many Americans are now asking, "Is college worth it?"

As a result of the recent economic downturn, many graduates are not finding well-paying jobs.

These undergrad engineering programs were ranked solely on a peer assessment survey conducted in spring 2013. To appear on an undergraduate engineering survey, a school must have an undergraduate engineering program accredited by ABET. The programs below are schools whose highest engineering degree offered is a doctorate.
