2015 John A. S. Grenville PhD Studentship in Modern Jewish History and Culture, UK

The Leo Baeck Institute London is offering a 3 year PhD studentship to undertake a research project in the field of Modern Jewish History and Culture with a focus on the late 19th and 20th centuries. The recipient of this scholarship will be enrolled at the doctoral programme at the School of History, Queen Mary, University of London. The studentship amounts to £24,000 per year, from which tuition fees (2014/15 Home/EU students: £3,996 full-time/ £1,998 part-time and non-EU/overseas students: £12,600 full-time/ £6,300 part-time) must be paid.

The closing date for application is 15th November, 2014.


Study Subject(s): Studentship is awarded in the field of German Jewish history and culture with a focus on the late 19th and 20th centuries. Potential fields of investigation are: Jewish intellectual history (19th – 20th centuries), Modern German-Jewish history (20th century) and Jewish cultural history (20th century).

Grenville studentship for an outstanding doctoral candidate wishing to pursue a research project in the field of German Jewish history and culture with a focus on the late 19th and 20th centuries. Applications are invited from current and prospective graduates with an excellent academic track record. Potential fields of investigation are: Jewish intellectual history (19th – 20th centuries), Modern German-Jewish history (20th century) and Jewish cultural history (20th century). The studentship is named after John A. S. Grenville (1928-2011), an eminent scholar of modern world history and German Jewish history.
